Sungkyunkwan Scandal - Episode 16

And so the story continues from where Sunjoon discovers Yoonhye's secret. He is shocked and full of disbelief as he asks Yoonhye: "Kim YoonShik you're a girl?". But before she has a chance to answer, the sound of their fellow classmates approaching complicates the situation. Sunjoon pulls Yoonhye with him to hide underneath the rock ledge before they are seen by their classmates, but the physical closeness between them now seem awkward. The looks they give each other are really electrifying!

Meanwhile, Jaeshin has put himself busy with the evil twins, determined to give them a lesson by making them stay in the freezing water as he enjoys prodding them with his wooden stick. I love how his aggression to them is a display of how protective he is of Yoonhye. It's almost like he wants to say Don't touch my girl!
Yoonhye wants to leave and return to base camp, but Sunjoon doesn't allow her: "I won't let you go!" *melting*. As Jaeshin returns to the place where Yoonhye was sitting, he is horrified to find that she is now missing, and runs around frantically looking for her. When he arrives back at base camp, no one has seen Yoonhye, but Yongha reassures him that Yoonhye is safe and sound...in a particular roomate's hands. Jaeshin is appalled that Yoonhye is alone with Sunjoon, but hides his own jealousy. Yongha teases him and tells him to take a look at them if he feels uneasy. Sunjoon has taken Yoonhye back to his room in the new college, he reassures her that he will be sleeping outside so she can rest assured. Just as he is about to step out of the room, his servant GunDol pokes his head in, preventing him from leaving. GunDol pleads to Yoonhye to make his master better YH: "You are ill?"
GunDol: "It's apparently some sort of 'Pining' illness. He can't eat, he can't read and he can't sleep!" Sunjoon's eyes widen at GunDol's relavation of how much his feelings for Yoonhye have affected him, and coughs to hide his embarassment, while Yoonhye pretends to be suddenly interested in a spot on the wall to avoid eye contact.
SJ: *Ahem* "GunDol..."
GunDol: "Don't know which person being pined for took his soul."
SJ: *Glances at YH* "GunDol you should be quiet"
And to top things off, Gundol locks the two of them inside the room asking Yoonhye to persuade Sunjoon to return to SKK. Both of them are horrified at the prospect of being locked up alone in a room together. Sunjoon says in a panicked voice: "But there is only one blanket!" hahaha

Back at base camp, Jaeshin tries to still his emotions by resting with his eyes closed. Yongha sees this and sits beside him. Yongha teases Jaeshin for looking so empty and saying that his heart must have flown off to Yoonhye's side. He asks Jaeshin openly: "Do you like Kim YoonShik?", Jaeshin simply replies with another question: "Do you?" Yongha admits that one can't help liking Yoonhye. He tells Jaeshin to stop missing opportunities while playing cool: "Pretending to not want anything; Pretending to not be jealous; and pretending to not care about small things...Pretender. If I were you I won't waste my energy, instead I will give my all to make that person mine. At the moment you have an advantage over Lee Sunjoon, because he can never imagine her secret" (aaahhh...but now he does! ^_^). I really like how Yongha is encouraging Jaeshin to make a move here, he is speaking the words of what every viewer is thinking: "Just go for her Jaeshin! We support you!"
Back in the room, Yoonhye tells Sunjoon to turn off the lights to sleep, but he insists that he has materials that he has still not read. So Yoonhye decides that she might as well read with him and goes to his bookshelf in search of a book. Sunjoon begins asking Yoonhye about what she had wanted to say back at the riverside, before she fell in the water, making the excuse that he thought she wanted to tell him something 'very important' and she should say before she forgets (hahaha as if you didn't know what she wanted to say!)...meanwhile Yoonhye comes across the porn book Yongha gave him on his bookshelf, so to avoid the questions she asks: "Scholar Lee SunJoon, mainly reads this genre of books?" and waves the book around (which is funny enough coloured red! Shouldn't porn books be more subtle?). Sunjoon is horrified as he sees Yoonhye holding the book and makes a grab for it, which in turn leads to a little play-fight, ending with Sunjoon pinning Yoonhye to the floor (to typically cheesy, but I much appreciated it here!) The two quickly decide to sleep before more happens. Yoonhye gives Sunjoon the mattress who in the beginning refuses saying: "I am a guy after all" but is rebuked by Yoonhye rhetorically asking him who was the person who fell ill just by being dunked in a little water? Touche Yoonhye! You go girl!....So she reassures him by using the bed sheet and rolling herself into it, a little like a spring roll, and gives him the cutest smile ever! >.<
Now Sunjoon asks: "From when did you start using such a pretty face to pretend to be a boy?" (omg! he called her pretty!!! *Squeals*) "If it's difficult to say-" YH: "I mentioned I had an ill younger brother. Because we didn't have money to buy medicine, so I helped scribing the medical notes. After the physician saw, he went to the book store to give me some scribing jobs. That year was the second year after my father passed away, I was about 12 years old." Awww....Sunjoon should give her a hug!!! SJ: "Kim YoonShik is your brother's name?" YH:" That's right" SJ: "So your real name?..." YH: "Kim Yoonhye. My name is Kim Yoonhye." SJ: "Kim......Yoonhye" (They are so cute!! :<3)>
The students are heading back to SKK. As they are strolling through the streets, Jaeshin now feels a little bad for telling Yoonhye off and moves to help with carrying her things, but is stopped when Chosun appears and requests to talk with Yoonhye. As Chosun walks pask Jaeshin, he suddenly stops dead in his tracks...Jaeshin asks Yongha whether all Ginsengs wore that perfume. Yongha sniffs the air a little then says that it was a perfume unique to Chosun. Jaeshin recalls the images of his last collision with the fake messenger and begins to suspect. It seems that Chosun has fallen head over heels for Yoonhye as she tells her of her plans to leave behind her life as a Ginseng and become a proper woman, asking Yoonhye if she would accept her. Yoonhye now becomes troubled, but knows that she musn't give Chosun hope, so rejects her humbly, saying that she was not worthy of someone so good as Chosun. However, this answer makes the lovesick Chosun love Yoonhye even more, but she accepts her answer for the moment.
As Yoonhye leaves the Ginseng house, she finds Jaeshin waiting for her. He warns her to be wary of Chosun and to not come to the Ginseng house anymore. Yoonhye tries to reassure him by using the old joke that she was "Daemul" hahaha but of course Jaeshin knows better and says: "It's because it's you that I worry." then her snatches her luggage and walks away. (aww....bless him! He's such a darling to her!!! >.<)
The students arrive back at SKK to see a new notice, stating that there would be a competition for winning some clementines (apparently a rarity on those days). As the headmaster is collecting the basket of clementines from the king, they bump into the Prime Minister (and his sidekick). The king and headmaster remark that Sunjoon would have a high chance of winning the competition, general is confused as he thought Sunjoon had left SKK, now it is the king and headmaster's turn to smirk and say that Sunjoon had returned to SKK! (Yay...even though we all knew he would). Back at SKK, Yoonhye is searching in the library for books and meets Sunjoon. She is surprised but he acts as if he didn't care. He begins to talk but stops when he addresses her: "Kim Yoon.....", he brushes aside the problem and carries on saying that he as the "Good Proper Man" has to live up to his name (Lol...) and take resposibility by helping her to leave SKK quietly, as he was the one who dragged her into all this. SJ: "To leave the woman I like in an environment full of men like SKK, you think of me as such a useless man?" *nosebleed!!* YH: "What gives you the right?" SJ: "I don't wish for you to be hurt, and I have an obligation to protect you. Do I still need other rights?" Yoonhye then makes a deal with him, saying that if she were to win the "Clementine Competition" the he should let her stay. He tries to deter her by explaining that in order to win she must have thoroughly learn all the famous books and teachings, reciting by heart and "you have to win against me!" he warns her that he has been champion several times in the past already (lol, just sounds like you want to impress buddy).

Jaeshin sees Sunjoon and rebukes him for being so fickle and undecisive, but Yongha reassures that it was Jaeshin warmest welcome back for anyone. That night, as Jaeshin and Sunjoon prepare to sleep, Sunjoon quickly makes a move and occupies the space in the middle (we all know who he wants to sit next to!), but our Jaeshin isn't know as beast for nothing, and also plants himself in the middle. Then ensues a war of back-slamming and bum-bumping as each tries to push the other away, heat levels rising as they give each other intense their most intimidating look *sizzling*

Just before they start an arguement, Yoonhye walks in, sensing and awkwardness in the atmosphere immediately. Now Jaeshin and Sunjoon order her to come to sleep by their side (if I was Yoonhye, I'd just sleep right in the middle between them! ^_^), but our cute heroine announces that she would be the one to decide, so the two look at her determinedly, Sunjoon cheating a little by giving her little signals behind Jaeshin's back XD
Then with the best timing ever, Yongha bursts in, who is totally oblivious to the atmosphere in the room, and he plants himself right in the middle between Jaeshin and Sunjoon, declaring that he had heard a nine-tail-fox! XD this is of course all not according to neither Jaeshin nor Sunjoon's plans of sleep next to Yoonhye! But our little heroine just laughs and walks off to sleep in Yongha's room instead, leaving two very unsatisfied male tigers.
And so begins the revision of the "Clementine Competition". The headmaster parades the basket around the school to try and spur the students on with revision, and it works! Everyone drools at the look of them and immediately begins revising hard!
Sunjoon and Yoonhye are also revising in the library. But Sunjoon (still very dissatisfied from last nights events) becomes entranced with Yoonhye's lips AGAIN! hahaha
So he piles up his books so that he can no longer see Yoonhye's lips!!

Jumping to a different branch of the story. Hyo-eun has come to see Yongha to beg for his help again! This time, Yongha does not give her any false hope anymore (he probably read Sunjoon's thoughts when he saw him decide to return to SKK), and tells her to let him go.
Meanwhile, at the market, Chosun is shopping with her friends when she detects someone following her. And it is none other than Jaeshin. She quickly walks away with Jaeshin tagging closely behind her but when he turns a corner, he finds a dead end and no trace of Chosun! Just as he leaves, and arrow comes flying across him, but there is no one in sight. A red letter is attached to the end of the arrow stating the next place the "Red Messenger" will appear. Jaeshin start to run off to prepare, but is stopped by guards, men from his father coming to collect him.
It appears that Jaeshin father has known his son was the real Red Messenger for a while and he advises his son to lie low and stay at the house, knowing that the fake messenger was all a trap for making him appear. Against his wishes, Jaeshin stays, but...doesn't this mean Yoonhye and Sunjoon have to sleep alone in a room tonight??

As we come back to SKK, we see that Sunjoon has made a make shift separator using a pilow and blankets (like that's going to work!) and tells Yoonhye in a serious manner to not cross the line! hahaha it should be the other way round!! But Yoonhye retorts by saying she would never do such a thing even if he begged her! Sunjoon simply says that she has not seen her own bad sleeping habits. I love Yoonhye's expression to this remark! XD
They settle down to sleep with their backs turned to each other. Sunjoon slowly begins asking that question he's been dying to know the answer to: "Last time at the riversider..." but this time, Yoonhye avoids the question by pretending to sleep.
Next day is the day of the competition. The students are tested individually in the first round, next they compete with each other to see who can answer the most number of questions the fastest. For each answer they get right, they get a clementine. Lastly, the final two contestants have to answer the question written especially by the king using a puzzle with fragments of letters. This required them to have a thorough knowledge of a particular book (detailing that attitude a governor should have towards his people) and to also put their own views into this to be able to arrive at the answer.

Outside the test centre, the little helper boy reports to Yongha about how the test was going. But evil mr-student-president comes along to sneer at them for not getting into the finals. Here he also begins to notice the bracelet which Jaeshin always wears. The correct answer is revealed and Sunjoon's answer is proven to be correct. He had argued that the people must be educated/taught for governing to rule smoothly, while Yoonhye had argued that one must get close to the people and know them in order to govern well. Although she answered well, it was still not the correct answer the king had wanted so the prize goes to Sunjoon. A disappointed Yoonhye goes rushing back to the library to check up on the precise book they had been tested on, and scolds herself for not remembering the right words. Sunjoon had followed her here and comments that she should be packing for leaving SKK instead of wasting her time at the library. Yoonhye pleads for another chance by using her charm and making a cute face at him.
Of course Sunjoon falls under her spell =) He stutters then mutters that he cannot allow such a dangerous woman, who had broken the laws, to roam freely outside, so must then keep her by his side to keep an eye on her. Yoonhye is relieved that he no longer wants to send her away and continues looking at the books in the library. For the third time, Sunjoon brings up the subject of what she had been meaning to say at the riverside. This time, Yoonhye has nowhere to run to, so she tries to pretent that she's forgotten. But Sunjoon is persistent:
YH: "Do I really have to put this into words?"
SJ: "How am I supposed to know if you don't tell me?"
YH: "You really don't know?"
SJ: "I'm dying of frustration-"
.........Yoonhye tip-toes and leans into KISSSSSS him!!!!!!!!!! (YEEEeeeesssss ^_^)
After this, Yoonhye gets too embarassed and runs outside to cool down, still not believing that she had made such a bold move. But suddenly, a black shadow appears in front of her, another shadow also creeps up behind Sunjoon in the library....

Jumping over to Jaeshin's side of the story, he is once again dressed up as Red messenger, but this time before he even has the opportunity to shoot any arrows, he is already surrounded by guards. He fights them courageously (so cool!! >.<) and manages to escape unscathed. However, he has dropped his bracelet, which of no surprise, is picked up by In-soo. He immediately remembers Jaeshin wearing it earlier in the day and orders the guards to arrest him

Meanwhile, our clever Yongha has already found Jaeshin who advises him to stay at his house for the night as all the escape routes were heavily guarded already. But Jaeshin is determined to go back for his missing bracelet and goes running off. He is soon stopped by another shadow, and simultaneously, Yongha is also captured by a black shadow.

The four students' blindfolds are unveiled and they find the King appearing before them...joined by Teacher Jung. The King gives them an order: "I'm here to give you a secret mission. Fulfill my order and create a new Joseon."
